Importing

Open the Import window with Import Audio in the toolbar (⇧⌘I, or Meeting → Import Audio…). Choose a Source at the top. MacParsley remembers the source and folder you used last and offers them again.

Upload Audiom4a, wav, mp3 and ogg files from your Mac. Drop them on the window, or click to choose.
Web LinkPaste a link to an audio file, a podcast feed (the newest episode is chosen for you), an Apple Podcasts page, or a web page with audio on it, and click Find. Paste a link to a Plaud, Pocket or Fireflies recording and MacParsley opens it in that service's list.
MacParsley Meeting (zip or folder)A meeting someone shared with Entire Meeting (MacParsley ZIP), or a meeting folder from another library. It comes with its transcript, summary and speakers.
PlaudSee Plaud and Pocket. Shown only if Plaud is switched on in Settings.
PocketSame.
FirefliesMeetings already in your Fireflies account. See Fireflies.ai. Shown only if Fireflies is switched on and has a key.

Dragging audio files onto the main window opens the Import window with them already chosen. Tick Don't show this when I drag files in to skip the window and import with your usual choices.

Choices

Under the list of files you can set, for everything in this import:

ChoiceWhat it does
TitleAI Generated uses the file name and then replaces it with a written title once the summary exists. Custom lets you type one (only when importing a single recording).
FolderWhere the meetings go. Click it and start typing to search. Type a name that doesn't exist and press Return: MacParsley asks whether to create it (inside the folder chosen now, or at the top level), and a second Return makes it and uses it. Before you confirm you can also choose the new folder's color and an icon.
TagsAdded to every meeting. Type a new name to create a tag; each new tag starts on the next color in turn, which you can change before creating it.
SummarizationDefault uses the model in Settings → Summaries (its name is shown in small print underneath). Custom picks another for this import's summaries, including Plaud, Pocket, Fireflies.ai and note1.ai once they're set up.
TemplateAutomatic lets MacParsley pick a summary prompt that fits. Custom chooses one. Not used when a service (Plaud, Pocket, Fireflies.ai, note1.ai) writes the summary: it uses its own layout.

For recordings from Plaud, Pocket or Fireflies that arrive with their own summary, Summarization and Template are hidden: the summary comes from the service. Tick Also write a MacParsley summary if you want MacParsley to write its own as well.

What happens next

Each imported recording goes through the usual steps: transcript, voices named from voice prints, a title, a summary, and both mind maps. You can keep working; the toolbar's progress button shows what's running. See Getting started.

Files already in your library (same audio) are skipped, and listed at the end as already imported.

Big imports

When you import more than a handful of recordings at once:

  • A banner appears above the content ("Importing 7 of 19 · Transcribing 12 · Summarizing 5") with a Stop All button for the transcribing and summarizing that is running.
  • The speaker windows don't pop up one after another. When everything has settled, MacParsley asks "Review speakers?". Choose Review Now to go through the meetings that still have people it isn't sure about, or Later. You can always find them in the Unidentified Speakers smart folder.
  • Import Audio is greyed out until the running import finishes, and Empty Deleted Items waits too.
  • Sharing a meeting that is still being transcribed or summarized waits until it's done.

If an import has a problem

At the end, MacParsley lists anything it skipped, with the reason (already imported, an unsupported file type, a service that was still processing, and so on). The Import window stays open so you can read it.

Sharing a meeting between Macs

On one Mac use Share Meeting → Share… → Entire Meeting (MacParsley ZIP) and save it from the Share sheet (for example to a folder, AirDrop or a file service). On the other Mac, import the zip with the MacParsley Meeting source.
