MacParsley

Plaud and Pocket

MacParsley can bring over recordings from your Plaud and Pocket accounts, with their transcripts and summaries, so nothing is transcribed twice. The two work the same way wherever the services allow it. (Fireflies works like them too; see Fireflies.ai.)

Switch them on

Settings → Recording → Third Party Integrations has a switch and a Configure… button for each. A service that is switched off doesn't appear as a source in the Import window.

Plaud

  1. Switch Plaud on and click Configure….
  2. Click Sign In…. Your browser opens Plaud's sign-in page. MacParsley never sees your password; it keeps a sign-in token in your Keychain.
  3. The sheet then shows Signed in as … with a green check, and a Sign Out button. It checks the sign-in each time you open it.

Plaud settings

What comes over

Set this once, in the same sheet. Everything not brought over from Plaud is made by MacParsley after the import (transcript, summary, titles) and both mind maps are always made by MacParsley.

ChoiceNotes
AudioAlways brought over: a meeting needs it, and voice matching uses it.
TranscriptOriginal, or Cleaned up by Plaud.
SummaryText only, or With images (see below).
HighlightsThe moments you marked while recording. They appear as a Highlights tab on those meetings.
Replace Plaud's Title with MacParsley Generated TitleOn by default. Turn it off to keep Plaud's titles.

Pictures in summaries

Plaud's supported connector doesn't give out the pictures in its summaries (the infographic and photos). Choose With images and sign in to Plaud's website in the same sheet. MacParsley then fetches each picture through the website, shows it inside the summary, and saves it as plaud-image-1.png, plaud-image-2.png… under Attachments. This uses part of Plaud's website that Plaud doesn't document, so it could stop working without notice; we'll make every effort to keep it working. If it fails, the import still completes with a text-only summary.

Importing

Choose Plaud as the source.

The Plaud list in the Import window

  • Search by name, and choose a date range (Today, Last 7 Days, Last 2 Weeks, Last 30, 90, 180 or 365 Days, or a custom range). Plaud's name search only covers the newest 500 recordings; the window says so when that applies.
  • Hide already imported (remembered) and Show ignored sit beside the date menu.
  • The list fetches up to 15 recordings you can see at a time, so hidden ones (already imported or ignored) never leave it empty. If a date range such as Today has fewer, they're all shown. Show More fetches the next 15.
  • Select rows with a click; ⌘-click or ⌥-click adds or removes one; ⇧-click selects a range; Select All and Select None are above the list.
  • Ignore (between Cancel and Import) marks the selected recordings as ones you don't want. It asks first. They leave the list until you tick Show ignored, where they carry an Ignored label and the button becomes Unignore. Importing one anyway clears the mark.
  • Recordings import one at a time, so finished meetings appear as it goes, and Stop Import keeps everything already done.

After each recording MacParsley runs the usual steps in this order: match the voices, write a title, put the matched names (and an Attendees line) into Plaud's summary, write anything Plaud didn't provide, then both mind maps.

Plaud's summaries are tidied on the way in: the Date and Participants rows and picture placeholders are removed, and the attendees line comes from MacParsley's voice matching instead. The small links Plaud puts at the end of some lines (pointing back to the transcript) are taken out; the words stay.

In Meeting Info, Open in Plaud opens the recording on web.plaud.ai. This works for recordings made both before and after Plaud 4.0.

If Plaud is still processing

A recording that ended in the last hour and has no summary yet is probably still being processed. MacParsley says so, waits 60 seconds, and looks again, for up to 5 minutes. If the summary still isn't there, that recording is skipped and the message says to try later. Stopping the import ends the wait.

Rate limits

Plaud allows about 60 requests a minute. MacParsley stays under 50. If Plaud pushes back anyway, MacParsley pauses for 60 seconds with a countdown, then carries on.

Pocket

Pocket uses an API key instead of a browser sign-in.

  1. In Pocket, open Settings → Developer → API Keys and create a key (it starts with pk_).
  2. In MacParsley, switch Pocket on, click Configure…, paste the key and click Save. It goes into your Keychain.
  3. The sheet checks it straight away and shows Connected as NAME (Plan plan) with a green check. Transcripts, audio and summaries from Pocket need a Pro plan; the sheet says so if you're on a free one.

Pocket settings

What comes over

ChoiceNotes
AudioAlways brought over.
TranscriptPocket's transcript. Its speakers come as Speaker 1, Speaker 2…, and voice matching names the ones it knows.
SummaryPocket's summary, converted so its timelines, flowcharts and decision trees read as headings and lists.
Replace Pocket's Title with MacParsley Generated TitleOn by default.

Pocket's tags become MacParsley tags.

Importing

Choose Pocket as the source. Everything works as with Plaud: search (Pocket's own search, which returns the best matches), date range, Hide already imported, Show ignored, Ignore, selecting with ⌘ ⌥ ⇧, one at a time with Stop Import, the still processing wait, and a rate-limit pause.

Use Pocket to transcribe and summarize

Besides importing, Pocket can do the work: MacParsley sends it a meeting's audio, waits, and brings back its transcript and summary. It works like Fireflies.ai and note1.ai, and you choose it in Settings → Summaries:

  • Default Transcription Engine → Pocket uses Pocket's transcript.
  • Summarization Model → Pocket adds Pocket's summary as a version labelled Pocket Summary.
  • For one meeting, choose Pocket in Resummarize's Model menu, or Custom → Pocket under Summarization in the Import window.

Pocket appears in those menus once its key is saved (Settings → Recording → Third Party Integrations → Pocket → Configure…).

Pocket needs no cloud storage: the audio goes straight to it. m4a, mp3, ogg and wav files all work. Sending uses the same API key, and the key needs write access (the recordings:write scope). In Pocket, under Settings → Developer → API Keys, make a key with write access and paste it in again; a read-only key is refused with a message saying so. The first time you choose Pocket, MacParsley confirms that audio will be sent.

Pocket usually has a transcript within a minute and a summary a little later. Its words are kept, and your Mac works out which speaker said each line, so voice matching can name the people it knows; the meeting isn't transcribed twice (see Transcripts from Plaud, Pocket or Fireflies). A meeting Pocket already has (imported from it, or sent before) isn't sent again. If Pocket can't take a recording, that meeting is processed on your Mac instead, with a message saying why. The recording stays in your Pocket account; MacParsley never deletes it.

Use Plaud to transcribe and summarize

Plaud can do the work too, for any meeting (recorded on your Mac, uploaded, or from a link): MacParsley uploads its audio into Recordings in your Plaud account, Plaud transcribes and summarizes it as it does its own recordings, and MacParsley brings back the transcript and summary. Choose it in Settings → Summaries the same way as Pocket:

  • Default Transcription Engine → Plaud uses Plaud's transcript.
  • Summarization Model → Plaud adds Plaud's summary as a version labelled Plaud Summary, with its pictures if With images is on.
  • For one meeting, choose Plaud in Resummarize's Model menu, or Custom → Plaud under Summarization in the Import window. A folder can choose Plaud too (Edit Folder → Summarization).

Plaud needs both sign-ins in its Configure sheet: the connector (to read results) and Plaud's website (the one used for summary pictures), because uploading goes through the website. Like summary pictures, this uses part of Plaud's website that Plaud doesn't document, so it could stop working without notice (we'll make every effort to keep it working); if an upload fails, the meeting is processed on your Mac instead, with a message saying why. The first time you choose Plaud, MacParsley confirms that audio will be uploaded.

Plaud takes mp3 and ogg as they are; other audio (MacParsley's own m4a recordings, wav) is converted to Ogg Opus, the format Plaud's recorders use, before it's uploaded. Plaud uses the template set in your Plaud account, so MacParsley's prompts and styles don't apply. Processing counts against your Plaud minutes. A recording without speech gets no transcript from Plaud, and Plaud refuses very short recordings (under a minute or so); either way the meeting is done on your Mac. While Plaud works, which can take several minutes, a strip under the meeting's title says what it's writing, with a moving bar; you can import, record and work on other meetings meanwhile. A meeting Plaud already has (imported from it, or uploaded before) isn't uploaded again, and MacParsley never deletes anything in your Plaud account. An uploaded meeting is linked to its Plaud copy: Meeting Info's Original source says Open in Plaud, and the Import window shows that recording as already imported, so it isn't brought in a second time. Pocket works the same way. As with Pocket, Plaud's words are kept and your Mac works out who said each line; imported Plaud recordings get the same treatment.

In the Import window, choose Web Link and paste a link to a recording in the service's web app (for example https://app.heypocket.com/app/recordings/… or a web.plaud.ai/file/… page). MacParsley finds it in your account and selects it in that service's list. Meetings imported this way have an original source action in Meeting Info that opens the page again.

If something goes wrong

See Troubleshooting: signing in again, a service that says "try later", and rate-limit pauses.
