Settings reference

Open Settings with ⌘,. Each tab below is described in more detail in the guide page linked beside it.

General

Settings → General

SettingWhat it does
LicenseThe trial (how many of its 10 meetings the library has), Buy MacParsley…, and where to paste your license key. Once licensed: who it's licensed to, and Deactivate This Mac…. See The trial and buying MacParsley.
AppearanceAuto (follows System Settings → Appearance), Light or Dark, for every MacParsley window.
Library LocationShows where your library folder is, with Show in Finder and Change…. Switching to another folder doesn't move your files. See The library.
Voice Prints → Keep per speaker4 to 128 (default 12): how many voice prints are kept for each person. See Transcripts and speakers.
Updates → Check for updates automaticallyMacParsley looks for a newer version about once a day and offers to install it. Check Now (or MacParsley → Check for Updates…) looks straight away. Every update is signed, and MacParsley only installs one that is.

Speakers

A list of everyone MacParsley knows by voice, with a search box and each person's voice prints. Customization… sets how sure a match must be to name someone automatically (default 80%), to suggest a name (60%), how readily similar voices are split into separate speakers, and whether speakers in Plaud, Pocket and Fireflies transcripts are separated on your Mac (on by default; it doesn't transcribe them again). See Transcripts and speakers.

Prompts

Browse, duplicate and write summary prompts; choose the fallback prompt; turn automatic choice off for a category or a prompt. See Summaries and mind maps and Writing your own prompts.

Summaries

Full walkthrough: The Summaries tab. To decide between models and services: Which should I use?.

How audio becomes a transcript, and how a transcript becomes a summary, all in one place.

SettingWhat it does
Transcribe new audio automaticallyStarts transcribing as soon as audio arrives.
Default Transcription EngineThe engine used for new audio. It lists only engines that are ready: downloaded ones, and Plaud, Pocket or Fireflies.ai once they're set up.
Configure Engines…Download or remove transcription models, and set up Fireflies.ai.
Corrected SpellingsThe fixes MacParsley applies to every new transcript.
Summarization ModelThe model that writes summaries (and titles and short mind maps): Apple, LM Studio, Ollama, cloud providers, Plaud, Pocket, Fireflies.ai or note1.ai. The menu lists only models that are set up; its last line, Configure Additional Models, opens the Model Settings window, where every model and the audio services (Fireflies.ai, note1.ai, Pocket) are set up. Its own settings appear right below the menu.
Automatic featuresSummarize automatically, write the short mind map, name new meetings, use a larger model for long recordings, let local models think.
Recognising the kind of recordingWhether detection may fall back to the default model.
Model Settings…Set up every other model, such as cloud providers, Ollama and LM Studio.

Plaud, Pocket, Fireflies.ai and note1.ai read the audio themselves, so choosing one sends recordings to it. See Which should I use? and AI models and privacy.

Folders and Tags

Manage your folders (edit, move, delete) and tags (rename, recolor, delete), each with a search box. Folders show their color, including the color they inherit from a parent. See The library.

RecordingThe folder and tags for recorded calls; the recording window; echo cancellation, and keeping the microphone on its own to check it.
PermissionsMicrophone, System Audio Recording and Notifications, each with a green check or red cross. See Recording.

MCP

The MCP server: on/off and port, with two buttons: API Keys… (make, copy, rename and revoke keys) and Connect App… (ready-to-copy setups for Claude Desktop, Claude Code, ChatGPT, Codex, Cursor, LM Studio, VS Code, Gemini CLI and others). Recent activity is listed below. See AI apps.
